Indian Embassy in Jakarta launches The Rise of Digital India Exhibition on the National Science Day

The Embassy of India in Jakarta (Indonesia) has initiated a big people to people contact program and seeks to bring to the doorstep of people of Indonesia the achievements of people of India in the fields of art and culture; science and technology, and literature through its ongoing ‘Sahabat India’ Fest that will continue till June 2015. The Embassy of India is presenting Sahabat India as a tribute to its trusted and reliable friend Indonesia with which India shares common culture.

As part of the Festivities, Ambassador of India to Indonesia and Timor Leste, H.E. Mr. Gurjit Singh, inaugurated three exhibitions at Lotte Shopping Avenue (Jakarta) on (i) The Rise of Digital India; (ii) Life on the Silver Screen:The Story of Indian Cinema; and (iii) Indian Handicrafts and Handlooms at the Lotte Shopping Avenue.

Famous Indonesian actors Mr. Nicolas Saputra and Mr. Ringgo Agus Rahman, who are friends of India and supporting the Embassy in promoting India in all possible ways, were present at the event.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador H.E. Mr. Gurjit Singh said that the launch of the Rise of Digital India exhibition on the National Science Day implies the focus of the Indian government on Digital India and scientific research for inclusive growth of the country. Simultaneous launch of three major exhibitions on science and technology, art and culture in the mall is to reach out to the friendly people of Indonesia and to inspire the younger generation.

In line with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi for Digital India – A programme to transform India into digital empowered society and knowledge economy – the Embassy of India has arranged the Rise of Digital India Exhibition from the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) in India. The exhibits consisting of visual panels, interactive audio-visuals and kiosks showcasing India’s achievements in the fields of science and technology, IT, space, atomic energy, agriculture, power generation and economic progress will be on display for three weeks.

To showcase India’s contribution to cinema, which has become an integral part of Indian life and expression and a major point of reference for Indian culture, the Embassy has organized the cinema exhibition from NSCM for three weeks. The exhibits takes a visitor through an absorbing journey of Indian cinema in a story telling mode with the help of visuals and graphics, film clippings, publicity materials, artifacts/replica, interactive multimedia and many more.

Handicrafts and Handlooms form an integral part of the rich culture and heritage of India and Indonesia. The exhibition on Indian Handicrafts and Handlooms will provide live demonstration of skills by Indian Master Craftsmen along with rich variety of quality Indian products on display. The exhibition will be held for a week.

The inaugural event was presented with a performance of Bhangra by the dance troupe from India as well as a fashion show by the participants of Miss India Indonesia.
