Suspended IAS officer Pradeep Sharma arrested in corruption case
Pradeep Sharma, the IPS officer who was under suspension after getting into loggerheads with the erstwhile Gujarat government headed by then chief minister Narendra Modi has been arrested by the state Anti-Corruption Bureau in a corruption case. Pradeep Sharma has been arrested by the Gujarat Anti-Corruption (ACB) Bureau in a corruption case, a case of allegedly taking bribe for extending benefits to a company when he was Collector of Kutch.
Giving the reason for the arrest, ACB director (in charge) Ashish Bhatia said that “Sharma has been arrested by us this morning under the Prevention of Corruption Act. As per the complaint registered by us, Sharma allegedly received Rs 29 lakh from private firm Welspun. The amount was first deposited in the account of Sharma’s wife, and then transferred to his account.”
“This is a case of allegedly taking bribe for extending benefits to a company when he was collector of Kutch,” Bhatia said. No executive of Welspun has been arrested so far for giving the alleged bribe.
