Sinha replaces Sinha as new CBI Director

Cbi_logo.svgSenior Bihar cadre IPS Arun Kumar Sinha has been appointed as the new CBI Director. Sinha was already working in the CBI as second-in-command. He takes over from outgoing chief Ranjit Sinha, whose last few days in office were marred by endless controversies. Ranjit Sinha has superannuated on December 2, 2014.

The decision to appoint Arun Kumar Sinha was taken by the high powered committee which included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Supreme Court Chief Justice HL Dattu and leader of opposition. Sinha has earlier held several important positions in his home state Bihar in vigilance, anti-corruption, administration, special branch and has served as SP, DIG, IG and ADG.

Sinha’s tenure as Additional Director General of Police (law and order) saw several steps taken to upgrade the system. Thereafter, he served as Additional DG and headed the vigilance investigation. He has been involved with several high profile cases handled by the CBI.
